The world awaited and the world got …

Yes, today I finally launched the new site I talked about earlier in this blog. After toying with two names: Your Netbook or Your Mini-Note I plumped for the former mainly because those small laptop computers are better known as Netbooks and also because I couldn’t really believe that the ‘yournetbook’ domain name was still available. It should have been snapped up years ago.
I wanted to build the site using WordPress so I needed to use a decent SEO package, a nice theme that would look sharp and modern but above all I needed some decent merchant affiliate links. I settled on four in the end and will be using mainly Dixons and Micro Direct.
Dixons actually load their prices by a few £’s and can work out dearer sometimes so as I find more reasonable prices I’ll change them round a bit. For example a Dell netbook through Dell will cost you about £299 but the same Netbook through Dixons will set you back £343. That’s one hell of a mark up?
I loaded the WordPress package onto one of my Harriers Online database’s first thinking that I could just point the domain name (bought through Heart Internet) to it but then found out that Streamline don’t seem to like external domains pointing at their databases. They don’t mind them pointing at a website hosting package but no further than that.
So I bought some cheap space with Dream Hosting (£9.99 pa with 5 db’s. Not bad) and set it all up on there. I backed up the Streamline db to my PC and then loaded it up to the new dedicated YNB database.
Then WordPress released the new 2.7 version so I updated that first. It all went well apart from the graphics which were referencing the previous database. They would still work but once I deleted it they would have vanished so I uploaded fresh copies straight into the new place.
With the Harriers game today being called off it gave me time to tidy the site up and also put the Christmas lights up.
Now it’s all done I might change the theme. The Slim Glassy theme is good but it might be too narrow for other widgets and thingy’s that I want to add in.
It’s a beginning though and now the money will start rolling in
